Arctic Monkeys Have All-Time Favourite Student Anthem |
|
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', debut chart-topping single from Arctic Monkeys has been named the all-time favourite student anthem after topping a recent poll.
Approximately 200 student DJs took part in the vote which was carried out by the NME for their 2006 Student Guide - free in last week's NME magazine.
The 'Monkeys did hold off some stiff competition from the likes of The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand who all made the top 10 with their respective anthems.
The top 10 went as follows:
1. I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys)
2. Mr Brightside (The Killers)
3. I Predict A Riot (Kaiser Chiefs)
4. Take Me Out (Franz Ferdinand)
5. This Charming Man (The Smiths)
6. Hounds of Love (Futureheads)
7. Naive (The Kooks)
8. Last Nite (The Strokes)
9. Banquet (Bloc Party)
10. Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)
Dan Silver, student editor of NME said:
"Its no surprise that the Arctic Monkeys have taken the top spot - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor is a worthy winner always guaranteed to pack any Student Union bar with revellers. It's great to see some old classics can still work their magic too."
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' is almost the most recent song in the list, second only to The Kooks' recent hit 'Naive'. |

Arctic Monkeys Talk About New Album |
|
Arctic Monkeys have been telling NME all about their new album which should be out at the beginning of next year.
According to the band, most of the songs on the new album have been written and they're about to begin work in the studio in the forthcoming weeks.
While also hinting at another possible tour (though probably a small one) frontman Alex Turner said:
"We'll do a few gigs in December, but we're going to start rehearsing on Friday (8th, last week) for the new record and we're going in next month to do some recording.
"[We've got] about 13 or 14 songs, but it's in different states. It might be just an idea, it might be something I've done with someone played on acoustics and some of them we all know it already, all the arrangements and shit like that."
Drummer Matt Helders spoke about the album possibly being released exactly a year after the debut album, admitting:
"It will probably be a bit later, but you never know. I think from our point of view we could have it ready for then." |
