Album Still On Course To "Smash Records"
Earlier in the week, the Arctic Monkeys debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" was predicted to become the fastest selling debut rock album. Today the album is on course to take the title of fastest selling debut album ever.

On the first day of the release, the album sold mroe than 100,000 records, selling out in many shops nationwide. According to chart experts it has now already sold over 250,000, well on course to break the record currently held by Hear'Say for their album 'Popstars', which sold 306,632 copies in 2001.

Gennaro Castaldo, an HMV spokesperson said:

"Saturdays are always our best sales days, particularly at the end of the month when salaries are being paid and people have more money in their pockets. There's now so much momentum with The Arctic Monkeys that we're confident the band can now write their way into the record books by taking the 'fastest-selling debut album' crown. It's also possible the band could claim membership of that rare club - artists with the number one album and number one single in the charts the same week."

When The Sun Goes Down is currently number one in the UK singles chart and apparently is ahead of second place by a few hundred records. It is very well possible that it could stay at the top for the second week running.
