| Album Still On Course To "Smash Records" | ||
| Earlier in the week, the Arctic Monkeys debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" was predicted to become the fastest selling debut rock album. Today the album is on course to take the title of fastest selling debut album ever. On the first day of the release, the album sold mroe than 100,000 records, selling out in many shops nationwide. According to chart experts it has now already sold over 250,000, well on course to break the record currently held by Hear'Say for their album 'Popstars', which sold 306,632 copies in 2001. Gennaro Castaldo, an HMV spokesperson said: "Saturdays are always our best sales days, particularly at the end of the month when salaries are being paid and people have more money in their pockets. There's now so much momentum with The Arctic Monkeys that we're confident the band can now write their way into the record books by taking the 'fastest-selling debut album' crown. It's also possible the band could claim membership of that rare club - artists with the number one album and number one single in the charts the same week." When The Sun Goes Down is currently number one in the UK singles chart and apparently is ahead of second place by a few hundred records. It is very well possible that it could stay at the top for the second week running. |

| With numerous award ceremonies coming up, it is no surprise to see that the Arctic Monkeys are nominated for several different awards. At the Nme Awards, the Arctic Monkeys are nominated for Best New Band, along with the Editors, Magic Numbers, Maximo Park and We Are Scientists. You can vote for Arctic Monkeys - Best New Band by clicking here. Arctic Monkeys are also nominated for Best British Band, Best Live Band and Best Track (I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor). The NME awards take place on February 23rd at the London Hammersmith Palais. Arcti Monkeys are also nominated for Best Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards this year. Voting for the award does not open until February 4th. |

| Arctic Monkeys Celebrate Number One With Chaotic Hometown Show | ||
 Stage diving and a new song as the group play a tiny venueArctic Monkeys have celebrated their second UK Number One single in style with a hometown gig in Sheffield. The low-key gig at the Sheffield Leadmill (January 22) was the same evening the band found out their latest single 'When The Sun Goes Down' had gone straight to the top of the charts - their second successive Number One single. At the show, which also serves as a warm-up for their appearance on this week's ShockWaves NME Awards Tour, the band opened with both singles in succession. From the stage singer Alex Turner looked amazed as the crowd sang back every word to the first verse of 'When The Sun Goes Down' - something which then happened with every song. "I don't know if you know but we've got a CD coming out tomorrow," he smiled, before adding, "you've all fucking got it anyway!" in reference to the fact that the album leaked online earlier this month. As well as showcasing tracks from debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', the band also found time to debut one brand new song titled 'Leave Before The Lights Come On'. In the run-up to the show tickets for the gig were changing hands for hundreds of pounds, and many fans were left stranded outside, unable to get into the 800 capacity venue. At one point in the performance Turner asked for the doors to be opened so the people outside could hear the music. The gig, which was watched by the band's family and friends, ended with 'A Certain Romance', with Turner stage diving into the crowd. The setlist ran: 'When The Sun Goes Down' 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' 'View From The Afternoon' 'Still Take You Home' 'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me' 'Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts' 'Dancing Shoes' 'From The Ritz To The Rubble' 'Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But...' 'Leave Before The Lights Come On' 'Mardy Bum' 'Fake Tales Of San Francisco' 'A Certain Romance' After the gig record stores in the city opened their doors at midnight to start selling copies of the album as soon as possible. | When The Sun Goes Down Hits Number One! | ||
| Arctic Monkeys knocked Shayne Ward off the top spot after five weeks with their second release "When The Sun Goes Down". This makes it two in a row for Arctic Monkeys after their first release "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" also hit the top spot after receiving very little to no media press back in October 2005. As well as knocking off Shayne Ward, Arctic Monkeys beat new releases from Notorious B.I.G, Will Young and Beyoncé to storm the charts. Meanwhile, "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" is still in the charts at #23. The top 10 list is as follows:  1. Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down2. Notorious BIG / P Diddy / Nelly - Nasty Girl 3. Will Young - All Time Love 4. Beyonce Ft Slim Thug - Check On it 5. Shayne Ward - That's My Goal 6. Nizlopi - JCB Song 7. Sunblock - I'll Be Ready 8.
