Two Scoops For Arctic Monkeys at Q Awards |
|
Arctic Monkeys stole the show alongside Oasis at the 2006 Q Awards yesterday - bagging two gongs each.
Prior to the awards ceremony which took place at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Arctic Monkeys were already leading the nominations, with four to their name, and managed to win two of the more prestigious awards: Best Album and the People's Award.
Meanwhile, Oasis received a double honour after being named the
Best Act In The World Today and Noel Gallagher was awarded the Classic Songwriter gong.
Speaking about his brother Liam, who did not turn up to the ceremony, Noel quipped:
"He’s gone to the zoo. The monkeys are bringing their kids to go and have a look at him."
"I guess I really should thank our kid for singing all these great songs – but as he’s not here, fuck him."
And, sticking to the Q Awards faith, Alex Turner didn't miss out the chance to cause a bit of a stir, as he stated:
A lot of people make jokes about having awards for no reason just for the sake of having awards, and pretending they were good when they weren’t,” he said."
"I’m not old enough to know a lot of them but even I know that Take That were bollocks!"
Mardy-Bum says: Take That, Take That!
But on a serious note, Arctic Monkeys didn't shy away from their excitement, posting on the official website:
We’ve had such a great year and are really enjoying ourselves. The Q Awards carry a lot of prestige amongst musicians, so we’re chuffed to get best album and the People’s Award.

Arctic Monkeys Have All-Time Favourite Student Anthem |
|
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', debut chart-topping single from Arctic Monkeys has been named the all-time favourite student anthem after topping a recent poll.
Approximately 200 student DJs took part in the vote which was carried out by the NME for their 2006 Student Guide - free in last week's NME magazine.
The 'Monkeys did hold off some stiff competition from the likes of The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand who all made the top 10 with their respective anthems.
The top 10 went as follows:
1. I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys)
2. Mr Brightside (The Killers)
3. I Predict A Riot (Kaiser Chiefs)
4. Take Me Out (Franz Ferdinand)
5. This Charming Man (The Smiths)
6. Hounds of Love (Futureheads)
7. Naive (The Kooks)
8. Last Nite (The Strokes)
9. Banquet (Bloc Party)
10. Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)
Dan Silver, student editor of NME said:
"Its no surprise that the Arctic Monkeys have taken the top spot - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor is a worthy winner always guaranteed to pack any Student Union bar with revellers. It's great to see some old classics can still work their magic too."
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' is almost the most recent song in the list, second only to The Kooks' recent hit 'Naive'. |
