Alex Reveals Favourite Arctic Monkeys Track |
|
Alex Turner had revealed his favourite track on the Arctic Monkeys debut album 'Whatever people Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.
Speaking to NME for this week's Top 50 albums and tracks issue, Turner told of his favourite tracks. He said:
"I think 'The View From The Afternoon''s probably my favourite. That was one of the last ones we wrote as well; that one just because it's interesting and groovy and that. And probably 'A Certain Romance'."
Also talking through the making of the album, Alex again revealed how the title of the album came about:
"We didn't want to call it 'Arctic Monkeys' because we thought it was a bit of a cop out. Then I saw that 'Saturday Night And Sunday Morning' film. There's a bit where he says that line and the conviction with which he said it, it just rang a bell."

Arctic Monkeys' Cookie Wants Girls Aloud's Coyle |
|
Arctic Monkeys guitarist Jamie Cook is not giving up the battle for his secret crush Nadine Coyle of Girls Aloud, despite the Irish singer currently dating Jesse Metcalfe of hit US TV show 'Desperate Housewives'.
Bandmate Alex Turner said:
"Jamie wanted to meet Nadine. But now she is going out with that bloke from Desperate Housewives, so he's no chance."
But Cookie insists he will not let this affect his wish, adding:
"Give me 12 months in the gym and I'll have her yet."
Good one, lads.

Recently, In Arctic Monkeys... |
|
..."Recently" because I have been really lazy again and have failed to keep you all updated with Arctic Monkeys goings-on, mainly because there aren't many but still, it's a responsibility we have.
I would like to start by first of all saying shut the fuck up to Preston from "Celebrity" Big Brother who last week managed to let slip and ungodly amount of shit escape from his mouth.
Preston, who apparently fronts boy band 'The Ordinary Boys' was rambling on about MySpace, claiming the website was "dead", before digging out his well-researched facts on it's relevance to the success of Arctic Monkeys:
"MySpace was important with one band, Arctic Monkeys, now it's on the check list with record labels. We've got to do some instores, sign all these posters, give away a signed guitar and set up a MySpace account. So MySpace is already dead. It's over."
Absolute drivvle.
As for some news with truth in it, Arctic Monkeys have yet again been nominated for some awards. This time it's the 2007 Meteor Ireland Music Awards - Ireland’s equivalent to the Brits - and Arctic Monkeys are up for 3 awards; Best Live Performance (Oxegen), Best International Album, and Best International Band.
The awards will be held at the Point Theatre on Thursday 1 February and televised on RTE Two at 9pm on Sunday 4 February.
Finally, and potentially most importantly, reports today suggest that Alex Turner has formed a new side project who are set to make a live debut next month.
This new band, called 'The Rascals', will perform live for the very first time Liverpool's Korova Bar on December 1. Although ticket details have not been announced, it's understood that the doors will open at 8pm.
This is all we know at the moment but once more infromation has been revealed we wont hesitate to let you all know. If, of course, there's any truth in the matter.

Arctic Monkeys Speak About New Material |
|
This time there's a track title named!
Alex Turner has spoken about the crazy year of success endured by Arctic Monkeys, and that it still hasn't distracted him from writing more songs.
Speaking to Uncut magazine Turner said:
"I can’t stop writing songs, I don’t know what else I’m going to do."
He also admitted that the new album will not carry the tempo that debut record-breaking album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" did, adding that some may even be played acoustically:
"I’ve written quite a few slower ones- there’s 13 or 14 songs, maybe a few more, in different states."
Laurence Bell, head of Domino Records has already heard one of the new songs, which Turner named "Brain Storm":
"Very bright and metallic – it’ll shock a few people." is what Bell had to say about the track.
