Arctic Monkeys Play Secret Pub Gig With New Bassist
|
|
Arctic Monkeys last night played a 10 song, 40 minute set in front of a full 120 capacitated 'Old Blue Last' London pub.
The secret gig was to introduce new temporary bassist Nick O'Malley who (as reported earlier) will be gearing up to take the place of Andy, who is taking a well-deserved rest throughout the North American tour.
And as if we didn't already know, Turner confirmed during the gig that the band's summer single will be Leave Before The Lights Come On'.
He said:
"We're going to play our new single for you now. It's straight out of the hit factory. This is our summer hit, watch out for it."
Reports suggest the band played well, and they apparently would have played on longer, had it not been for their demanding curfew.
The setlist ran:
'The View From the Afternoon'
'Still Take You Home'
'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me'
'Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But..'
'Dancing Shoes'
'Cigarette Smoker Fiona'
'Leave Before the Lights Come On'
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'
'Fake Tales Of San Francisco'
'A Certain Romance'

Pet Shop Boys Praise 'Pop' Act Arctic Monkeys
|
|
Neil Tennant, one half of British pop act 'Pet Shop Boys' has taken a dig at modern pop industry and reckons the likes of Arctic Monkeys and other guitar acts are the real stars of pop music.
Speaking to contact music, he said:
"We are going through a phase where the term 'pop' is used to mean rubbish. "But bands like the Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand make pop music.
”They like to think they are rock but they are pop and all have a sense of fun about what they do and have a great look.”
"It annoys me that pop gets clogged up with Pop Idol and reality TV rubbish.
"Shayne Ward has a waxwork in Madame Tussauds - can you believe it?" |
