| Recently, In Arctic Monkeys... |
|
..."Recently" because I have been really lazy again and have failed to keep you all updated with Arctic Monkeys goings-on, mainly because there aren't many but still, it's a responsibility we have.
I would like to start by first of all saying shut the fuck up to Preston from "Celebrity" Big Brother who last week managed to let slip and ungodly amount of shit escape from his mouth.
Preston, who apparently fronts boy band 'The Ordinary Boys' was rambling on about MySpace, claiming the website was "dead", before digging out his well-researched facts on it's relevance to the success of Arctic Monkeys:
"MySpace was important with one band, Arctic Monkeys, now it's on the check list with record labels. We've got to do some instores, sign all these posters, give away a signed guitar and set up a MySpace account. So MySpace is already dead. It's over."
Absolute drivvle.
As for some news with truth in it, Arctic Monkeys have yet again been nominated for some awards. This time it's the 2007 Meteor Ireland Music Awards - Ireland’s equivalent to the Brits - and Arctic Monkeys are up for 3 awards; Best Live Performance (Oxegen), Best International Album, and Best International Band.
The awards will be held at the Point Theatre on Thursday 1 February and televised on RTE Two at 9pm on Sunday 4 February.
Finally, and potentially most importantly, reports today suggest that Alex Turner has formed a new side project who are set to make a live debut next month.
This new band, called 'The Rascals', will perform live for the very first time Liverpool's Korova Bar on December 1. Although ticket details have not been announced, it's understood that the doors will open at 8pm.
This is all we know at the moment but once more infromation has been revealed we wont hesitate to let you all know. If, of course, there's any truth in the matter. |

| Arctic Monkeys 18th in Premiership of Fanbases |
|
...Ahead of Bolton Wanderers too!
Travelodge have conducted a survey which has measured the sizes of fanbases for many things around the UK and drawn up a list of top 20 results, containg some weird results. Not surprisingly, Arctic Monkeys are somewhere in there.
Out of all sports teams, musicians, authors, celebrities, stage performers, and politicians Arctic Monkeys' leigon of fans are ranked 18th, outdone by a host of other bands and musicians - who have been around considerably longer, of course - but still manage to beat the loyal fans of Bolton Wanderers FC
Manchester United rank 1st, followed by Robbie Williams and Liverpool FC, showing what Arctic Monkeys were up against.
The full list is as follows:
1. Manchester United 2. Robbie Williams 3. Liverpool Football Club 4. Arsenal 5. JK Rowling 6. U2 7. Take That 8. Tottenham Hotspur 9. Stephen King 10. Killers 11. John Grisham 12. Aston Villa 13. Guns N' Roses 14. Green Day 15. Roger Federer 16. Chelsea Football Club 17. Billy Connolly 18. Arctic Monkeys 19. John Le Carre 20. Bolton Wanderers
Bolton aren't the only casualty, though. They're just the only ones in the top 20! Mardy-Bum decided to do a small bit of research and find out the rest of the Premiership teams who suffer to the loyal fans of Arctic Monkeys.
Blackburn Rovers Charlton Athletic Everton Fulham Manchester City Middlesbrough Newcastle United Portsmouth Reading Sheffield United Watford West Ham United Wigan

| Arctic Monkeys Speak About New Material |
|
This time there's a track title named!
Alex Turner has spoken about the crazy year of success endured by Arctic Monkeys, and that it still hasn't distracted him from writing more songs.
Speaking to Uncut magazine Turner said: "I can’t stop writing songs, I don’t know what else I’m going to do."
He also admitted that the new album will not carry the tempo that debut record-breaking album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" did, adding that some may even be played acoustically: "I’ve written quite a few slower ones- there’s 13 or 14 songs, maybe a few more, in different states."
Laurence Bell, head of Domino Records has already heard one of the new songs, which Turner named "Brain Storm": "Very bright and metallic it’ll shock a few people." is what Bell had to say about the track.
To read more on what looks like a promising interview, get the December issue of Uncut magazine, out now. |

| Two Scoops For Arctic Monkeys at Q Awards |
|
Arctic Monkeys stole the show alongside Oasis at the 2006 Q Awards yesterday - bagging two gongs each.
Prior to the awards ceremony which took place at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Arctic Monkeys were already leading the nominations, with four to their name, and managed to win two of the more prestigious awards: Best Album and the People's Award.
Meanwhile, Oasis received a double honour after being named the Best Act In The World Today and Noel Gallagher was awarded the Classic Songwriter gong.
Speaking about his brother Liam, who did not turn up to the ceremony, Noel quipped: "He’s gone to the zoo. The monkeys are bringing their kids to go and have a look at him."
"I guess I really should thank our kid for singing all these great songs but as he’s not here, fuck him."
