Alex Plagued By Ex-Birds |
|
Arctic Monkey’s frontman Alex Turner has realised the price of fame. Ex-flames of the baby-faced Northerner have noted that he is in the one of the hottest bands around – and have started plaguing him with phone calls and text messages.
The band’s guitarist, Jamie Cook, says: “One of his friends told her he was in a band now and that we had just got signed. Then she says, ‘Oh, can I have his number’ and then started calling loads.â€
He added to the Star: “Another one rang the day we went to number one.â€
“She went to school with me and Alex. We all lost contact completely after school, and then she pretended she didn’t recognise us in a queue for a club a year later.â€
“That influenced a song we’ve got now...But when we had a hit, she got Alex’s number from someone a few weeks ago.â€
“So she phones one day and says congratulations and ‘text me your number, we’ll have to get together and go out sometime.â€
“Yeah – right luv, I’m never even going to text you.â€
Not only fame-seeking, then, but also thick as two short planks – she phoned him to ask for his number?? What?!

Alex Turner is the coolest man on the planet... |
|
...at least that's what NME say.
That's right, Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner was number one in the NME Cool List 2005. Hardly even known this time last year, Alex enters at the top this year knocking Pete Doherty and Carl Barat (ex Libertines) from the number one spot, the joint winners last year, with Doherty falling to sixth this year and Barat to ninth.
Number 2 on the list was Oasis singer Liam Gallagher.

Arctic Monkeys warn fans over 'rip-off' CDs |
|
Fans are warned not to purchase music they can get for free online
Arctic Monkeys have slammed people who they say are "ripping off" fans by selling freely available music via online websites such as eBay.
Before the Number One success of 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' dozens of studio demos by the band were made freely available to download and passed around between fans at gigs. Many of the tracks have been re-recorded for the band's debut album which is released next year.
NME.COM has discovered that some people are collecting the original demos together onto CD and selling them on as unofficial 'albums' via internet websites.
The band's label Domino Records are furious, and say that the songs which are available for nothing should remain free.
"Domino will endeavour to halt the blatant ripping off of fans by those who cobble together freely available Arctic Monkeys music on the net and sell it for profit," a spokesperson said. "In practise this mainly involves us manually removing these perpetrators on an individual basis from sites such as eBay."
A spokesperson for eBay also urged people not to buy from bootleggers. He said: "I urge fans to download these songs from the Arctic Monkeys website. We remove bootlegs as soon as we're made aware of them. As there's three million items live at any time in the UK we'd urge people to let us know if they find anything they're not happy with."
Early, official Arctic Monkeys releases are now becoming extremely valuable. Last week a copy of the band's debut single 'Five Minutes With The Arctic Monkeys' was sold in the region of £100.
